More about the Topfree Neighborhood
I thought it might be good to start a new thread with more info and reflections on a topfree neighborhood...the other one got a bit long. It's still a good place to go for background and developments, but I'd invite further questions, comments and suggestions to be posted here.
From this past weekend, I have a couple reflections on life in our increasingly close-knit topfree neighborhood.
First about the kids...I mentioned before that all of us adults are enjoying being the extended family for all of the kids...twin girls at now 8; a little boy is 7 and his sister is 5.
Since it's winter and the pools are not being used (other than the lap pool), the flag system isn't necessary. Sometimes during the weekends, Lana will host the kids and others from the neighborhood in their hot tub...so we go over for topfree but not nude tubbing. Andy and I sometimes give Lana and Donna a little time without kids...it's fun for us and healthy for them...and the kids are the ones who will call us to see if we can come over sometimes...it's cute.
As you know, Jane is now into her chemo...and all the kids are very concerned about their friend. They take her cookies and go over after school to see her. None of them had ever had someone they knew well to have surgery, so this has been a new experience for them. Jane's made sure they see how well she's healing...starting a few days after each surgery. The twins particularly have asked a lot of questions. So...we're all learning a lot.
Then about the sauna...what a wonderful addition to our neighborhood experience! We all pitched in for the purchase and continue to share the cost of running it...and it's literally part of our lives almost every evening.
Several times a week, the guys will watch the kids so all of the women can gather together for support and conversation in the sauna...usually for about an hour in the early evening. Being able to unwind totally and to share our concerns and needs with each other has been good for us...and I think particularly good for Jane.
On the other nights, most of the adults in the neighborhood gather in the sauna later in the evening, and go between the hot tub and the sauna for a couple hours. I know we all look forward to our quality time with our neighbors. I think we talk with each other differently because we've developed a deep trust and respect for each other...since we're comfortable in not covering up our bodies, it seems we're also comfortable in not covering up our feelings either. I think we've found that freedom is a deep emotional experience.
During winter the neighborhood is a little more subdued...we're all looking forward to spring.

Re: More about the Topfree Neighborhood
Thanks, Moni...it sounds like the neighborhood is really enjoying the sauna. How great! It's become a gathering place, rather than just a sauna. It reminds me of the idea of the 'sweat lodge' in original Native American cultures.
And it is really cute that the kids will call you! Thanks for the update...it's nice to know that the neighborhood has a good rhythm of activity, even in the winter and even during the week.

Re: More about the Topfree Neighborhood
(I've been out of state on business most of last week and just got back. Lots of great activity here to catch up on!)
Hi Moni-Moni ('member that from a while back? I think it was Fall.)! Thanks for picking up with news from The Neighborhood. Good idea to open a new thread. Like everyone else, I love your photo and laugh whenever I see it. Please say Hi to Jane for me; she's in my thoughts.

Re: More about the Topfree Neighborhood
Sooooo glad it's getting to be nicer weather. We're planting flowers around the neighborhood this weekend...and continuing to do some cleanup, of course. It'll be really nice on Sunday afternoon particularly...so I know many of us will be out in our gardens topfree!!

Re: More about the Topfree Neighborhood
Thanks, drwaldo, for your question...sorry I didn't include the updates already.
Jane is finished with chemo, but still has little energy. She seems to be getting a little stronger each day, but she's not happy that she's not just bouncing back.
Over the weekend, our topfree neighborhood was really humming with activity. Nice weather...gardening and planting and pruning...warm days in our yards and cul-de-sac...evenings in the sauna and hot tubs...great!
Jane was our topfree gardening supervisor...she's getting too good at giving orders though...I know she can't wait to get down and dirty again with the rest of us.
Thanks again for all the prayers and good thoughts.

Re: More about the Topfree Neighborhood
What a blessing to have so many caring friends!!! I am so grateful for all the healing thoughts and heartfelt prayers. Thank you all!
I'm feeling better each day. And I'm looking forward to the 'all clear' from the docs in a few weeks. You'll probably notice a different avatar...I just needed a new photo for a new start.
Our topfree neighborhood was so wonderful last weekend...as Moni told you. I've discovered that I'm pretty good at giving orders...I like being the supervisor. But I'm also looking forward to more and more actual gardening. I never knew how much I'd look forward to being dirty, sweaty and tired from gardening.
Thanks again for all the love.
Jane
