Camera phobia for a topfree rookie

This is my first post and I must admit that I am a complete rookie to topfreedom compared to everyone else that posts here. I am in my early fifties and up until last week had never had my top off at any public place. However, I have a few times been with my top off in extremely isolated places. In these remote instances it would have taken sophisticated reconnaissance satellites to see me. I am definitely a newbie.

We recently vacationed in Aruba and before hand I decided to give it a go. I own four string bikinis and one conservative two piece. I have never owned or worn a thong.

The first day on the beach we sat near two European women who were topless. They were tan from top to bottom. It clearly was not their first day on the beach. I felt very secure with the thought of removing my top with them around. However, shortly after getting in place a man carrying a camera showed up and set up about 25 feet away from me and directly behind the European women. I was totally freaked out. Most people now days carry small pocket sized digital cameras. His was a large version and very intimidating to me. My top seemed to freeze as though it had been super glued to my body.

It was clear that he was not interested in taking pictures of the water, landscape, wildlife, etc. He was scouting out bare boobs to get close up shots. I had no desire to be included in his photo album, especially with out my top. In fact I felt like completely covering myself with a blanket.

The reaction of the European women was interesting. I am sure they knew he was there but they acted like he didn’t even exist. He had no effect whatsoever on them. I must admit I was envious of them but at the same time really annoyed at the intruders presence.

There was an empty hammock about 50 yards away. My husband and I laid in the hammock out of range of the camera. Of course the guy had a bag with zoom lenses so I wasn’t completely safe, but I felt a lot more secure at the new spot. Also, in addition to the European women, there were now several others topless on the beach.

After about fifteen minutes my top was off. It felt great. I have never had a sun tan on my breasts. I still don’t have much of a tan but they are not pure white as before (progress takes time). All experienced members of this site probably think it is silly to be so bashful about taking of my top, but I felt like I had taken a big step.

I have more topfree stories about the trip but will post them later.

Has anyone had experience with intrusive cameras while topfree? I am sure there are a lot. What reactions have others had and how did you deal with it?

Thanks,
Bcup

Welcome, Bcup! Don't worry about being a newbie...we were all there once! Yes, I think most of us have encountered intrusive cameras. Your response describes what I'd probably do too. Sometimes I'm more devil-may-care, but other times I just want to be left alone. You did fine!

I'm really happy you decided to give it a go! And I'm looking forward to reading your other topfree stories. Of course, I'd encourage you to enjoy being topfree in casual social situations too, so you can have a diverse topfree portfolio!

Glad you've joined us!

It really annoys me when guys are annoying like that. It used to freak me out to think my pic was taken, but frankly, nobody from my work would see one of those voyeur pics of some girl topless on a beach God knows where, and say "Hey, that's Missy!" It's got do w/ context and whether the person viewing is expecting to see someone they know, etc. So, I don't worry about it too much. I've caught guys 50 yds away snapping me w/ a telephoto and that doesn't bother me. It's when they're all hanging around & creepy - yuck! Hubby usually just scowls at them and they leave.

Congradulations Bcup. Yes - intrusive men wit cameras have discouraged me from being topfree. That is part of the reason why I am somewhat selective which beach I bare all on. My first time at Orient Beach at St. Martins - the beach guys would forcibly remove cameras and delete/expose pics from people who took unauthorized pictures! That is so cool. Where I most often go now, I have a sense that other beach goers want to make the beach a safe place so they would intervene.

My man recently did a shoot on a beach and a guy kept hanging back to look at the nude model. My man finally confronted him - with good results. IT helps if there are a couple hefty guys around to confront these voyeurs with lenses.

I'm tempted to suggest spraying such an intrusive individual in the crotch with a water gun, then loudly deriding his obvious lack of bladder control, but it lacks a certain maturity.

Then again, maturity's overrated. emoticon

A sometimes effective remedy is to bring your own camera and start taking pictures of the picture-taker.

They know they are being rude (to say the least), and are usually afraid of having their own picture possibly put online labeled as a sex-pervert.

This can be a major issue. You just never know where such a picture pops up. Maybe nobody I know (I think) looks at voyeur sites on the Internet, but maybe some of my male students do and a picture like that of me if discovered would be around the school in a flash and it would be socially embarassing to us in the positions that we have in our community. So, simply we can't take any chances.

This is why, when I go topfree or we go nude, we go to places we know, because of formal or informal enforcement, that the chances of this happening are small. And/or, we go to places fairly uncrowded at a particular time. For example, instead of going to the literal South Beach in Miami Beach, we'll get off the boardwalk in the 30th-40th St. area. It's much less crowded and probably all cameras are farther south.

Realize also that with cell phone cameras widely used it's possible to take very surrepitious pictures. While some women are fortunate in that dissmeination of such pictures carry fairly small consequences, others don't have that luxury so for them proper awareness is crucial. I don't know what your situation, but discretion is never a bad idea.

1) Perhaps have your husband stand about 10 feet away from him and directly if front of his camera.

2) Carry a laser pointer and shine it in the lens of the camera.

Both of these ideas may provoke an out burst so take caution.
