Mayan Riviera
Can anyone recommend hotels (please not cities or areas etc - there are so many wonderful posts about that already! I really need the actual name of hotels or resorts that you would recommend) where topless is common at the beach AND pools in the mayan riviera. I'd prefer south of Cancun - ie Playa del Carmen or Tulum, and not a mega resort. The trick is that Topless is accepted on the beach everywhere, but my wife wants to be able to go topless throughout the resort. We don't want a nude resort such as Copal, but one where there are lots of people practicing topfree activities.

We're going this Sunday to the Barceló Resort (acutally 5 hotels in one complex). It is 35 kilometers south from PdeC.
Last time (2 years ago) toplessness was very common at beach, but just 3 or 4 girls were topfree at pool.
It's a family oriented resort but with many European guests.
Now, I've read, they have at the Barceló Palace (the newest and more expensive of the 5) an "Adult Only Pool", intended for toplessness. I'll check it.
Friends of us have stayed at Adventura Palace and Xpu-ha Palace and said they have seen "several" topfree women at the pool.
Another couple have been at Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda, where there are "some" topfree ladies at the pool, but it's not the norm, like at the beach is.
BTW, my wife has packed just a top and 5 or 6 bottoms, due she pretends remain topfree as much as she can, may be at pool.
We'll inform when we'l be back

i stayed at the barcelo last spring..the beach was topfree , and the pool too..but to go to dinner you cannot go topfree....and there are a lot of children there...if you are looking for a place to go topfree of nude throguhout the grounds, i would not recommend this place... otherwise its a very nice place to stay..

When we went a few years ago, the key for us was the adult pool where most of us were topfree and they had a wonderful bar. Topfreedom also at the beach, however we saw no topfreedom for women at the main pool.
As I have posted before, we found Spanish owned resorts the most friendly. However, I too would be interested if there are any resorts where women are topfreedom throughout the resort, other than nude resorts??

hidden beach resort gets our vote for nude or clothing optional throughtout. from the office to the beach, you can even eat in the restaurant nude too. no restrictions. the beach itself is not that great, especially for snorkeling, but you can walk over to the siste hotel (topless on beach only) and snorkel off their pier. the food is excellent, although a bit rich for our taste, but this is a 5 star clothing optional place. have fun

I went to the Riu Palace at Playa del Carmen. I felt totally at ease being topless at the beach, either laying out, swimming, or going for walks down the beach. I'd say about 30% of the women were topless on the beach. Oddly enough, I only saw a few topless at the pool so I left my top on.

The way I figure out who owns the chain, I google and check out the web-site, plus I check out where they get lots of their bookings from.
Week to week varies with resorts -- I like to go to resorts that I am sure will have clients from the mederterianian where attitudes about top freedom are similar to mine.
I find that resorts own by Spain are the best in this regard. I am not a world traveler, but have been to the Caribbean several times.
For Example -- recently traveled - checked out Hilton and the Ritz -- neither allowed topless anywhere. Went to a foreign owned resort - they had a section for nudity.
I can't remember the name of the resort we stayed at in the Rivera Maya, they did have an adult pool. - besides it may have changed.

Well, we’re back from our 8 day trip to Barceló Resort at Riviera Maya. We’ve stayed at Barceló Tropical, one of the 5 hotels that compose the resort. We traveled with our 13 and 6 y/o kids.
My wife, Anabel, brought several Brazilian style and thong bottoms and some small triangle tops. She enjoys topfreeness from 11 years ago, but she tends to do it only in adequate places.
The first day (Monday Aug 4) we headed to the beach around 10 AM; for our disappoint, there wasn’t a single topfree lady, so my wife decided remain with her top on. We were at the beach till 1 PM, then we went to the pool and came back to the beach around 5. At that time, there was only one topfree woman laying on her chaise lounge. The sun was really hard that day, so in the afternoon she had her breasts much whiter than the rest of her torso, fact which we didn’t like. She decided start to sunbathing topfree from the next day.
Tuesday we were at the beach at the same time than the previous day; Anabel worn a yellow thong bottom; her top came off as soon as we chose our place under the partial shadow of a palm tree. Soon came the same topfree lady of the previous afternoon and laid 50 ft from us. One hour later, Anabel wanted to refresh in the ocean, and asked me if would be proper remain topfree; of course I answered that I consider absolutely correct swim topfree in the ocean, so she did. After noon, there were at least 5 or 6 topless women at our area of the beach. That day we repeated the same routine of Monday, beach till 1PM, pool and lunch (with top on) from 1 to 4, and beach again from 4 to 6 (topfree again).
From Wednesday, we included in our routine a stroll along all the resort’s beach (around 1.5 miles), and could see there were between 20 and 30 women each day who decided don’t wear a bikini top. Anabel felt very comfortable and confident at that environment. She didn’t dare to be topfree at the pool; I’ve suggested it to her, but she rejected; actually, we’ve never seen topfreeness at that area during all our vacation.
The resort had an occupation of around 60% during our stay (staff gave us that information). Around half of the tourists were European (mainly Spanish, Italian, German and a few French), another quarter were North American (US and Canada citizens), and the rest were Mexican (like us) and Latin American (mainly Argentinean and Brazilian). I can’t assure, but it seems only European women went topfree, and with the exception of Anabel, none North American or Latin American woman decided for that option to sunbathe.
