Destinations : Tenerife
Rachel and I would thoroughly recommend Tenerife as being a thong friendly/topless island. Although there are a few nude beaches, most of them difficult to reach and not very attractive, the main sand beaches
(either black sand or white sand)in the south, particularly El Duque, Fanabe and the main beach at Los Cristianos are very attractive. The majority of ladies are topless and thongs are common. These beaches are long and are popular with 'power walkers', many of them in thongs or topless. Swimming is safe and there are promenades behind all of them. Every one seems very relaxed about what others are wearing and there seems to be virtually no staring or comments. The vast majority of thong wearers are women but there are a few men.
I have worn a thong regularly over our past six or seven visits and have experienced two incidents; first two Spanish builders working on the promenade at El Duque said something to each other which I believe was directed at me when I was wearing a brief bikini and two people stared and smiled also when I was in a tanga. Strangely when wearing a thong, I have met no problems.
In January, I regularly walked along two beaches in Los Cristianos in one direction and back along the promenade completely relaxed and unbothered by any comments. Rachel has become less willing to go topless or wear a bikini in recent years although we are only in our early fifties and she still has a good figure and I have seen women of over 70 in brief thongs; nevertheless, she has no objection to walking with me while I am in a thong.
Tenerife is a very relaxed island with plenty to do and can be recommended as an enjoyable holiday destination for beach lovers what ever their costume preference.
