Dominican Republic
My wife and I are thinking of going to the DR this winter. I have read the old posts and understand that the DR is topfree friendly. Has anyone been to the Punta Cana Princess resort? It is an adult only resort and so may be more topfree friendly. Has anyone been to Samana, is it topfree friendly? Nudity would also be fine.

I do not remember the resort we went to -- We loved the DR. Loved the attitude about TopFreedom. The resort we stayed at had several people nude on the beach. We had brought our kids. Son early in puberty. After an hour of seeing topless and nude women, he really did not pay any attention to it all.
One thought - the price is right at the DR - yet the workers are very poor. Be Sure to tip.

We have been to the DR many times especially Punta Cana resorts, the topfee attitude is largely accepted.
We have been to many resorts around the world and the DR takes the cake for the best resorts for the money and best resorts overall IMHO.
A few tips are, only drink bottled water, bring a LOT of sunscreen lotion, all toiletries are extremely expensive there because they know you wont find them anywhere else so make sure you bring your own, if there are massage huts outside the resort entrance, they are going to be way cheaper than the ones inside the resort, the last time I went they were around $20/hr (they won't mind if you are nude), if not still get a massage in the resort, don't leave the resort to go to a shopping center or to get anything, its not worth it, usually one day of the week street vendors will come to the resort so you can buy souvenirs (always negotiate a lower price).
Be prepare to be treated like a king, the Dominicans still know what good customer service is and like Sun Fun said they are very poor and I know that tips are already included in your price but one or two dollars will make a great difference to a point that you will almost be embarased because you are not used to that kind of service anymore.

Thank you both for your replies. We will be going probably in 2009 and I am interested in getting to a resort that is topfree inhibited and willing to let others explore further nudity, should it occur. I have been to Mexico and my wife and I have had a great experience there. Can't wait to go
Has anyone had any experience at the Punta Can Princess Hotle? It is an adult only resort.

Check out the RIU resorts. They are Spainish owned and thus have large numbers of European visitors who fully enjoy the topfree/thong/nude experience.

Try Caliente Caribe in the DR. Owned by Caliente Resorts in Tampa, FL, but is completely CO. Topfree and nude is the norm in the entire resort property, which is huge. even in the restaurant. It is all-inclusive, so once you're there you don't even think about money. But as Sun Fun says, we should tip them with American dollars anyway.

I have read many tripadvisor reports that suggest that topfree and nude are not respected at Punta Cana resorts. Is this an abberation or is this the dominant theme? I am going in the winter and would like to be at a place that is at least accepting of topfreedom and some nudity.

I stayed at a Riu resort at Punta Cana too, and topless was atleast 30% on the beach. Close to 0% at the pool. Stay at a Riu resort and you will have no problems.

What resorts did they say that about?
Like Allie I experienced nudity and topless. However, I don't care where in the world you travel, if you stay at an American owned resort that caters to Americans it will be very prudish. When traveling out of the country we always avoid American as we love nudity and topfreedom. We look to resorts that cater to Mediterranean peoples.

We stayed at the Riu Palace in Punta Cana. At times, topfree women were about 60%-70% but mainly it was around 30%-40%. I never saw any nudity but there were always 4 or 5 topfree women at the pool.
I've been to other places in the Caribbean but none have compared to Punta Cana in my opinion. My wife and I took a topfree walk down the crowded beach for a mile or so and we must have seen a couple of hundred topfree women. We went in early June.
Even the famous Orient Beach in St. Martin didn't seem to have as many topfree women. Maybe I was there at a bad time for topfreedom however the section of the beach that was nude was packed with people. The great thing about St. Martin was the sheer number of beaches. If you didn't like one, there were plenty more to go to in a short ride.
Anyway, you can't go wrong in Punta Cana.
