BLOCKING THIS FORUM

It seems that we have a lot of members stopping by for a read but contributing nothing .

To overcome this situation I will be blocking those people from being able to read certain parts of this forum.

If you want to read topics in the future you will have to join the forum.

Any comments before this happnes will be more than welcome.

Thanks

Re: BLOCKING THIS FORUM

Hi Michael,

I think that's a really good idea. At least if people can be bothered to log in they might have enough motivation to post.

Just to let you know, what I got this morning when I hit the link for the site in my bookmarks was a page that said, in effect, 'you need to be a member or logged in to see this'. Since I am a member, I would have thought I could have seen the list of topics anyway, but don't mind logging in before I can have a look. It makes it easier to see what is new (except for that bug where everything in the 'top' level of subjects always says 'new' regardless of activity).

I suspect we might loose some lurkers, but is there much point being on a forum if you don't contribute anything? Sure, it is nice to read the old threads, but the best way to learn is to have people chime in with ideas on what you contribute, and to read others doing the same.

Marra

Hi Michael and Marra,

I could not agree more, think its a great idea.

There are alot of people coming in to read, so I think that they should be members and have to do an introduction at the very least.

Othere wise us few that are posting, might as well send private emails to each other, and they would have nothing to read anyway.

I nearly always log in and not often that NEW is along side all of the subject headings, was today, but thats the first time in ages, usually only new to item that are new.

Re: BLOCKING THIS FORUM

Hi All,

I do hope that more people log onto the forum. It is more a matter of knowing who we are reaching within the club.

If people know it is blocked, and that only club members can read their posts, then they may use it more.

We will wait and see.

Thanks for the support.
