Welcome Wendy,

Great to see another person from the East also interested in VST and we need everyone's support to help get the new titles accepted at the conference in March.

It is just great isnt it watching the dogs work under the different conditions and they seam to adapted so easily.

We will be interested to hear what sort of areas you have layed your tracks in and how Miss Annabell and Gambit go.

Hi Wendy
Glad to hear you have joined us - I am very hopeful that these new tracks will be accepted by all the State reps at the March 2008 conference in Sydney. It is up to every person interested to contact their Canine Control tracking committee asking them to support the proposal. As Marilyn has said, we have had a heap of fun doing these tracks, the dogs and handlers are all on a learning curve as they are somewhat different from the tracks we have been used to, but the dogs are loving it. Seeing them track in the streets with cars, kids, stray dogs, people all crossing the tracks and watching is awesome, and the best part, the dogs acknowledge them and then get on with the job! BTW, I have very fond memories of my trip to Broadford Vic judging a few years back and meeting some absolutely wonderful people - you included. I am back in August to judge the State & National Obedience trial so hope to be able to fit in if I can, a trial while I'm there. Will have to ask Dawn Howardor Helen Den Hartgot what is on.

HI every one

I am from Melbourne and have tracked a Labrador, now semi retired, and am tracking a mini poodle who is doing fine. I have a real interest in VST, got all the books and had a bit of a try. If it goes through I will be compelled to get another Lab to show these GSD's up,LOL Of course poodles can do it to!

Re: WELCOME TO OUR NEW SITE

Hi
I have thought so far that our Gun Dogs might have a slight advantage on Variable surfaces as most have a natural casting and or quatering action. For normal tracking I spent a reasonable amount of time getting Cadbury to track in the track and to track straight. Without this, I could not have tracked him at his advanced age, and would have ongoing difficulties reading him. For Labs the magic dust is food of course. But I know that when all else fails, (corners and change of terrain ) that casting and quatering returns. When I have tracked him over concrete or Asphalt he casts and quaters a lot more,(as expected) but makes what seems to me to be some pretty smart decisions.
I did note that Barbara B has had good success with her GSD on VST which do tend to be map trackers.

I have felt for a while that the complementary styles of GSDs and the better gun dogs would make a great team in SAR situations.

Hi Denis,

Interesting what you are saying, having Flat Coats myself I found with the normal tracking Selsdon in particular does alot of drifting (quartering) but on the VST there is non to speak of which really pleased me.
Taylor I have not tried on VST yet, but she does very little quartering on her normal tracks.

Hello Denis,

First of all I would like to say what a wonderful name for your dog "Cadbury" I like it!

I am amazed at the trasformation of my own dog to VST as was Marilyn. You get this lump in your throat when you see the dogs working the streets, so to speak, it really is a wonderful sight. Its even a better feeling when you are behind the dog and its working like a locomotive on rails.

You will have to go and try "Night Tracking" as we did last year. If people are intrested on how we went about laying the tracks for night training I will write up a small article on what we used and the fun we had doing it. The hardest part, for people with dark coloured dogs, is trying to see where they are in the dead of the night with no moon. Let me just say that it was another huge learning curve and we are looking forward to night tracks this season.

Regards emoticon
