Re: WELCOME TO OUR NEW SITE

Hi
Cadbury even though he is within a week or so of 14 is still tracking. He LOVES it. So when the weather is suitable I will try a VST with him and see how he goes. Cadbury is Tch Cadbury and got it last year. His style is very straight on the track. I retired him at 10 when I got ill, and he literally went into a harness again last January, did 4 practice tracks, failed track 3 twice, one his problem one mine and then went straight through. I am itching to see how he will go. can't make it too long though.

My other dog is a mini poodle. She is TD and nearly two. she struggles girlfully with galahs, birdies, sheep, etc. Doesn't care much for other dogs though. When she has a touch more focus, I might try VST too. My goodness she is a lot more work to track!!

Thank you for sharing Michael,

Sounds like you all had a great time and I would love to have a go at the next one.
Wonder what the Kangaroo's thought about these strange moving lights in the night.

Not sure how well I will see Selsdon in the night, no white bits on him at all.
Might have to sew some reflector tape or something onto his harness.

Re: WELCOME TO OUR NEW SITE

Hi
I'm afraid I'm finding this site too difficult to manage. It takes me ages to find the comments I'm looking for and even when I get a message giving me a link to click on to take me to a reply to my message it only takes me to the main page. Maybe I need a tracking dog ... Apologies to the person who took the trouble to reply to my message.

Hi Ruth,

Sorry you are finding this difficult to manage. The introduction pages has gone to 4 in total, they are in the top right hand side, your reply is on page 2.

Once you have posted just go to the top left hand side of your screen and click on Trackwest or one of the other sub headings and it will take you to that main page.

Maybe to make things easier on people, if it is a question about training rather than just answer under "introduction" we should start a new thread so that it dose not get bogged down in the intro's.
Would that make if better?

Hi Ruth, Just a couple of thoughts to help you with training. Make your tracks between 7 and 9 hundred metres long; throw in 2 to 3 turned to startwith about a 3 hour delay. As you gain in confidence throw in more corners, remember a missing person may meander all over the place. Cross roads then go back again, the track does not have to be straighthalh moons and harseshoe shaped are great.Find an area where there is grass beside the footpath or road.
Have your tracklayer walk onto the vegetation for the first 4, 5 tracks. This gives the both the dog and yourself a feeling of familiarity.
The challenge of traffic wheezing past cats appearing and other dogs suddenly attacking the fence as you go by are things both you and the dog need to master.
You will also get an idea of how much animaling your dog will get up to out on the road. Once you are satisfied the dog can track in the open, move the tracklayer on to the hard surface.
This will bring great challenges for you and the dog with the scent being burnt, washed off quicker than it will on vegetation.
On a hot day the reflective heat from the hard surface will take lot out of the dog. Remember to rest the dog and have water for it and yourself available if tracking on a hot day.
Hope this helps Dimma
PS don't forget to use articles on the track, this time instead of old socks use personal items that are beyond their use by date.
Broken sunnies, broken reading glasses, old hats, and wallets, purses things that an everdayperson is likely to carry and drop. Even drink cans and bottles. Be prepared to loss them as well meaning members of the public pick up the wallets and purses.

Hi, Im James, from Collie, inland from Bunbury WA. No tracking trials experience yet, but extensive hunting in NZ with GSPs (german shorthaired pointers). Looking to get into a pup soon, and start tracking trials as its the closeest thing. Whats the timetable for the club in 2009?
