Web hosting

I can't make the meeting on Saturday, but... does anyone have alternative ideas for hosting? I think it's been mentioned in the past.

Re: Web hosting

I've mentioned in the past that I can probably arrange hosting for us. I have 2 options, you tell me which works better for you - one is hosted on a windows server box (I believe w/ front page extensions but can check what else he has installed), one on linux w/ apache. Probably best to e-mail me since I'm so rarely on here anymore...

(assuming of course this is still an issue)

(Edit: - Given my 'druthers, I'd prefer to set things up on the windows box as 1: It's local to us, and 2: It's a good friend's system co-located on a FAST link so I feel very comfortable with both asking him for the space and with the level of service we're likely to end up with...ie SPEED - can you say DS3 boys & girls?)

If there's something that I can help with, maybe hosting the forums for you guys or something, let me know...

Later,

Jeremy

Re: Web hosting

I'd say go with the windows platform at this time.

As I mentioned earlier, my martial arts schools are taking up all of my spare time, and as a result I'll be stepping down as webmaster. Anyone who would like to contribute to the cause should drop Mark an e-mail.

I hope to see you guys at the June meeting. Geez, I think I've only made it to one meeting this year.

Thanks,
Matt

Re: Web hosting

I'll start moving on getting the account set up as soon as my friend Rob gets back into town. To clone what we've got running right now, is there anything special we'll need from a server standpoint? (IE: SQL, PHP, Perl, what?) I think the easiest/best solution right now is to just swing everything over as-is & then we can pursue having someone else take over - I'd volunteer but my spare time is very very sparse lately & will be for the foreseeable future...

Re: Web hosting

Base account is set up. Matt, Mark, do we need him to run DNS for us too, or not? He can, no problems, just let me know and get me a copy of the zone file or shoot me a list of the records we need added, I'll get the DNS taken care of & once the nameservers are running w/ the appropriate entries we can swing the DNS records w/ the registrar over to the new nameservers... Matt, if you can please e-mail me outside this forum I'll get you the username & password for ftp access (if you don't mind handling the migration I mean). Had him go ahead & set up frontpage extensions as well, in case we need it now or going forward.

Back from vacation. Christian, I'll drop you an e-mail, but unfortunately I don't really have time to migrate the site over.

I think Mark opted to go w/ another provider - one of his friends does hosting I guess. Not sure if he's moved anything over yet or not though.
