Would trailhogs consider joining IA 4wd Assoc?
I attended the IA 4wd assoc meeting 12/2 in desmoines. Brent from 4x4syndicate is new president. Other board members are new too. Sounds like IA4wdc assoc is taking some new steps to further our cause in a positive direction.
IA full size vehicle clubs/members are needed to support the IA Assoc.
Not trying to start a fire here but am hopeful (based on meeting agenda/discussion)that other clubs in IA are interested in working together towards promoting our sport to other full size owners, the public, and legislators.

Re: Would trailhogs consider joining IA 4wd Assoc?
I know some people that would be up for this. Alot of them have trucks but hey we all miss 600 acres. Lets get a place for Jeeps and Trucks. If it is maintained right should be fun for all. I know I wanna go

Re: Would trailhogs consider joining IA 4wd Assoc?
Cory,
What could be the negatives in joining a larger group in order to get a public wheeling location? I am one of those that sits back and whines that there's no publc wheeling in our state, yet has done nothing to help. What can an average guy like me do to help, as I really don't like having to go out of state to play.
What are the ATV people doing right that the full-size crowd isn't? The more I think about 600 Acres being closed to us the more it irritates me. I never had/saw/heard of/imagined any conflict with the ATV group. It would make the most sense to open that area back up to our group, but I doubt that would ever happen.

Re: Would trailhogs consider joining IA 4wd Assoc?
one option for wheeling in south central iowa would be to join miobi club.
http://www.miobi.org/main.htm
miobi is not jeep specific and has access to some of the best wheeling land in IA.
there are other clubs to consider too in western ia but miobi would be closest to ic/cr area.
many people belong to 2 or 3 iowa 4wd clubs. belonging to more clubs could open up more wheeling opportunites (through the club)and meeting more people.
clubs usually have a couple members that participate with the ia 4wd assoc. in some ways your club dues might help support the ia assoc.
not sure if the ia assoc still employs a lobbyist at the state level. who knows if one lobbyist can compete with lobbyists supported by insurance companies?
I figure insurance companies would prefer no full size off roading since someone could file an injury claim or property damage while off-roading their suv/truck/jeep. insurance companies also concerned that your wife's parent's uncle's next door neighbors pet fish might file a lawsuit if you are injured.
atv's have the #'s. most suv's/4x4's will never off-road or activate 4wd. more $ in selling atv stickers.
IA is is not colorado/utah/AZ and not known for full size offroading. Most visitors to IA pass through on there way west or east.
atv's and full size in same park poses risks dnr/insurance companies/etc dont want to deal with.
i often wonder if dnr would consider offering a full size weekend at 600 acres?maybe an off season weekend from the atv's?
I wish i could re-locate to colorado/west but am living in ia for now.
I have a jeep and also belong to jocci in desmoines. jocci has some private stripmine land near miobi they wheel on. I have been to miobi 5 times for their annual events.
not holding my breath for IA public full size wheeling land but there are other opportunities with ia clubs.
now that my kids are older and capable of handling a 16 hour drive over 2 days I am looking forward to heading west out of ia. They are also old enough to stay with grandparents for 2 weeks.
In meantime checking out ia club opportunities could be a step in some direction.
