ACT NOW
YOUR HELP AND ACTION IS NEEDED NOW. I hope you get upset; there is a very strong possibility that we will loose 600 acres to ATV's only!!!
The DNR intends to keep moving forward with taking over the Coralville OHV 600 Acres site for ATVs only. The DNR has NO intent TO EVER INCLUDE FULL SIZE VEHICLES IN ANY PLANNING ACTIVITIES FOR MOTORIZED RECREATION. Bottom line, they will do what they want. Our legislators have suggested the only way to have an impact on the DNR is to contact the Governor of the State ; the DNR Director reports ONLY to him. They also suggested letters to Harken and Grassley might help ....
EVERYONE needs to take a few minutes from their day and send a letter to the Governor and a couple of key Corp. of Engineer leaders. The letter to the Gov. has to be sent via Federal Mail, not e-mail.
Just to reiterate key points some key point that can be used in the letter include;
- The DNR developed the proposal in a vacuum - without input from local business communities and without input from local Full sized vehicle recreationists
- This proposal will have a negative economic impact on local communities, loss of large business from the full sized vehicles and it will NOT be replaced
- The proposal ignores a large growing segment of outdoor recreation, some states report 30% increases in SUV purchases
- Most other States are providing PUBLIC areas for full sized vehicle Off Highway recreation, why can't Iowa??? DNR focus is ONLY onf ATV's and snowmobiles
- The Trailhogs Jeep Club has a strong relationship with the Corp of Engrs and in recent years has been the only group to help maintain the site
Also it would be good to call the Governors office and leave a message regarding your feelings!
Addresses of the key decision makers are:
Governor Tom Vilsak
State Capitol
Des Moines, IA 50319
Brigadier General Robert Crear
CEMVD
P.O. Box 80
Vicksburg, MS 39181
Colonel Duane Gapinski
Gapinski.Duane.col@usace.army.mil
WE ALL must contact these folks or we DONT STAND A CHANCE of saving the site for full sized vehicle use. In addition we need to continue to push to have vendors contact the same folks. We also plan to continue work with the local City Councils ....
Thanks and PLEASE WRITE LETTERS ASAP!!
