Any offroad places in NE Iowa/SW Wisconsin? What's Iowa law on offroading?

Hi All,
I'm planning a long fall colors weekend drive up the Mississippi River on both the Iowa side and Wisconsin side.

It would be nice to take the Jeep offroad once during the trip -- nothing too rough since I'll be in a stock CJ-8.

1) Are there any places in NE Iowa to wheel... especially near the river? (private off road park, National Forest, state parks, etc.)

2) Any places in SW Wisconsin?

3) What is Iowa law regarding offroad trail riding? (Is it illegal like IL?)

Thanks,
Jim

1. No private off road park or Nat. Forest. There is about 1 mile of 2wd dirt road in the Yellow River Forest north of Marquette. I also once found some good 2wd dirt & gravel road south of Galena, IL near the River. There are probably several short pieces of 2wd dirt along both sides of the River but most is either developed & paved or inaccessible.
2. The members of Tri State Stump Jumpers know a few good dirt roads & have occasional access to private land in SW Wis.
3. Yeah, Illegal to go off road in the State parks & forests.

One positive note: The leaves are usually worth the trip, even if you do not use 4wd.
