Katie and Burt
Well, there's not alot to say about Burt,
He's our first dog, a lemon C0cker Spaniel. We got him 1 1/2 years ago when he was very small and 10 weeks old. As soon as he was old enough, we (my mum, my brother, and I) took Burt to puppy classes, mainly so that we could learn how to train a dog to do basic things like sit, come, down, and wait. We wanted to continue with the classes, but unfortunately there wasn't another group to join when the initial six weeks ended.
I'm not entirely sure what made us want to do agility, but something made me and my mum listen when UpAndOver was mentioned. We decided it would be a fun thing for my mum to do with Burt, so we came along to three introductory sunday classes last january I think. The original plan was for my mum to do the handling, and i would watch, but soon we were taking turns with Burt. Eventually my mum decided to let me train Burt on my own, and since then we have developed enough of a bond that Burt will follow me around the house with almost as much loyalty as he follows my mum (the only time he doesn't want to come to me is when someone has food or my mum is talking to him )
Anyway, I love agility now and I'm pretty sure Burt does too, so I am hoping to start competing as soon as possible . I guess that's the entire history of Burt
Now for me: I'm in year 11 at the moment and go to Test Valley School in stockbridge. I will be taking my GCSE's in May and June before moving on to Seter Symonds College to do A levels. I love everything to do with animals and my ambition is to become a Vet.
see you later,

Re: Katie and Burt
Hi Katie
Thanks - those that train with you didn't need to be told that you and Burt love agility - it's great watching you both enjoying it on Tuesdays.
Give us a shout if you need help knowing what shows to go to as often the name of the show doesn't give an indication of where they are. Also they usually have to be entered a month to six weeks before.
I think the nearest UKA show that a few UpAndOver people will be going to is Waverunners 28/29 March

Re: Katie and Burt
Katie,
Have just read all about you & Burt - I'm really glad you decided to work with Burt as you have a really good relationship with him. Being so young you will have all the time in the world to get it right - I wish I'd discovered Agility at your age - it would have been my prime sport from then onwards!
I so loved having you & Burt in my Beginners class up to Christmas. You always worked so hard together and it was great to see you come along as a partnership. What made me really proud was when you entered AND WON the jumping competition @ Wallingford in the New Year. You were both fantastic and it was well deserved.
I'm really glad you are thinking of entering some competitions this year. I have entered the first 2 outdoor UKA shows (28/29 Mar & 3/4 Apr) as well as others in May. The first 2 are at Walton - a lovely venue and I would be happy to meet you there and show you how they operate. They have Nursery classes (which the Kennel Club do not) and are a great way to start competing. You need to register with them (which you can do on-line) but entries have to be in for the first competition by 27th Feb and for the April comp they have to be in by 6th March. Don't worry if you miss the deadline though, you can enter on the day but it is more expensive. I love the UKA shows, really friendly and great fun. Hope to see you at some this year. Do get back to me if you want any help and I'll do what I can.
