What is a BETA Program ?

Before a commercial software program is released to the public, it usually goes through a "beta" phase. During this stage, the software is tested for bugs, crashes, errors, inconsistencies, and any other problems.

Though beta versions of software used to be made available only to developers, they are now sometimes made available for the general public to test, usually through the software company's Web site.

However, because beta software is free, the programs usually expire after a period of time. If you choose to test a beta software program, don't be surprised if it has multiple problems and causes your computer to repeatedly crash. After all, it is the beta version.

You can tell if a program is still in beta by checking the program's properties. If there is a "b" in the version number (i.e. Version: 1.2 b3) that means it's a beta version

So remember BETA software is by definition, still in test mode, and as such presents a certain level of risk to the end user.

DO NOT download any BETA programs unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing. You will save yourself a lot of trouble.

Exactly....don't even go there unless you are 100% confident on restoring your settings.

I steer way clear of these programs all the the time, they're not worth it, leave it to the programmers to deal with.

Re: What is a BETA Program ?

They can not bring harm to your computer, the only thing that can go belly up is when your system either keeps shuting down because of a fault or it doesn't load properly.

When you want to restore back to the original setting before BETA was installed it either won't or it will be some settings may not load again.

Again, I stay well clear of them myself, but if you do use BETA programs make sure you create a restore point BEFORE you install it, this way you can revert back to the point when it wasn't installed.
