Why I Practice Buddhism
I practice Buddhism because it gives me hope and helps me to believe in myself in a way that didn't seem possible before. I know now I can achieve my aims and have a strong feeling that no matter what, everything will be ok.
I have become a much stronger human being, I have confidence in myself that I would never have dreamed possible before I began chanting.
When I am practicing strongly, I know I am in rhythm with the universe, a great and wonderful feeling. Before I began chanting, I, like everyone else, had good and bad days.
Sometimes everything seemed to go right, but often it felt like everything seemed to go right, but often it felt like everything was going wrong and the world was against me.
Not only did I feel good while chanting, afterwards people seemed to respond more positively to me at work, on the bus, train, in the pub. It has was a new way of life for me and I liked it.
I felt in my veins that I could take positive action to create a better world. Through chanting I feel I have gained strength to cope with new challenges which arise with confidence and vigour, and best of all to help others to win over their challenges too, it's a great spiritual feeling especially when I can help people here on Runboard too with problems or issues.
The name for this is Buddhahood. Why not start to chant
Nam-myoho-renge-kyo yourself one night. It can be hard to get the pronounciation correct but if you know of someone who practices Buddhism why not ask them and listen to how it is said.
After a few tries you get the hang of it

Re: Why I Practice Buddhism
Hi, all.
I'm a Zen Buddhist of the Soto tradition. I entered this path because there were certain irreconcilable differences in what I was brought up to believe as a Westerner and a Christian, and what I saw and experienced all around me on a daily basis. The teachings of The Enlightened One were the only reconciliation possible.
(Later, once those teachings had taken hold, I came to understand that Christianity had more in common with us than I had previously understood...as most religions did. So it goes)
Over the last ten years, my practice has proceeded from curious investigation, to cautious experimentation, to devotion, and finally integration into my everyday life. This initiation complete, I now comprehend that the remainder of this life and those to come are now steps along my path to Self, and there's a comfort and strength there I can draw upon in life's worser moments: Karma is hardly the enemy it once was.
Anyhoo, just a moment to say "Hi!" to a few brothers and sisters.
