WinZip
WinZip Basic Information
Did you just receive e-mail with a Zip file attached to it, or did you just download a Zip file and don't know what to do with it? This thread explains the basics of Zip files and how to use them.
What are Zip files?
Zip files are single files, sometimes called "archives", that contain one or more compressed files. Zip files make it easy to keep related files together and make transporting, e-mailing, downloading and storing data and software faster and more efficient. The Zip format is the most popular compression format used in the Windows environment, and WinZip is the most popular compression utility.
Why do people use Zip files?
Zip files compress data and therefore save time and space and make downloading software and transferring e-mail attachments faster. Typical uses for Zip files include:
Distributing files on the Internet: Only one download is required to obtain all related files, and file transfer is quicker because the archived files are compressed.
Sending a group of related files to an associate: When you distribute a collection of files as a single Zip file, you benefit from the file grouping as well as compression.
Saving disk space: If you have large files that are important but seldom used, such as large data files, simply compress the files into a Zip file and then unzip (or "extract") them only when needed.
Once you've downloaded WinZip, there will be a option for you to select in the right-click mouse menu
Thats the basics of WinZip, here is how I use WinZip
I like to keep my WinZip files in a dedicated folder within my (C:) drive.
I create as New Folder and name it Zipped Files
Rename this folder to Zipped Files
Once you've done this, make another New Folder with the same window and name it UnZipped Files
The reason I do this is to keep my zipped and unzipped files in one place.
If I want to extract or unzip a file, I make another new folder within the Unzipped Folder and rename it to something I can remember.
I'm using Registry Mechanic Zip file as an example.
In my UnZipped Folder I have made a New Folder and named it Registry Mechanic
When you right-click on your mouse on a Zipped File you will see the WinZip option in the menu (highlighted in pic)
When you've hovered your mouse cursor over Winzip, another sub-menu appears, select Extract to...
This will open the WinZip extract window (follow highlighted option)
Click on the + to expose the sub-menu
Scroll down (1) to view your Unzipped folder (2)
Click on Registry Mechanic to highlight it (1) and then click Extract tab (2)
WinZip will then extract the files to that folder
Your zipped files will now be displayed in the Registry Mechanic folder within your Unzipped / Registry Mechanic Folder
To install the program just open the Registry Mechanic Folder and double-click the setup.exe file or icon

I installed the,"Back2zip"..
I had installed something else on a differant puter, but that was a long time ago.. Do ya think this FilZip is better??
