Using Ad-Aware SE Personal - Free Edition When you open Ad-Aware you will see the Ad-Aware SE Status screen - Press Start
You will now see this screen below, Choose 'Perfrom Full System Scan'
Press 'Next' - This will start the scan
If the scan has found anything it will alert you with an audible sound and a 'Bug' icon will flash
Click Next
Click on the Critical Objects Tab (see below) to show the object. The object in this case is a tracking cookie but poses no threat and can be safely removed
Click on the 'Scan Summary' tab to show both objects, You can click on the 'plus sign' to expand the object to reveal more info.
The MRU List poses no threat what so ever and is not spyware, you can add these MRU files to the 'Ignore List' if you want or delete them.
Click on 'Negligible Objects' tab, right-click on the top file and choose 'Select All'
You can remove or delete these files or you can add them to the ignore list using the options from the right-click menu
This leaves you with the threat file, place a 'tick' in the box and select 'Remove'
This window will appear asking you what to do, we want remove it so click OK
The object will be remove and will be logged in the 'Quarantine' section, you can delete the quarantine items if you wish.
Re: Using Ad-Aware SE Personal - Free Edition I prefer Ad-Aware SE to Spybot Search & Destroy, although Spybot is a very good program you need to know what you are doing with it otherwise it can be complicated.
I have the Pro version of Ad-Aware SE, works the same as the Free one but has a few extras. Don't forget to keep up with the updates, I do mine every week, sometimes there aren't any sometimes they don't, keep tabs on it and it will serve you well.
