Game History -- First Party that Died - Venturing


This will be used to store the older turn text history as the warriors progress from one adventure to another. This should help to avoid overloading the current turn text topic. It will be a closed topic, because it will only be used as a reference.

Game History (Part 1) The Party Perished (Turns 1-39)


Turn 1

First Adventure: Recover the Amulet
(Derived from the "Return the Crown" adventure)
This really is the adventure for this game.


Introduction: Evil monsters have stolen a powerful artefact, the Amulet of Life and Purity and have sealed it away in a nearby dangerous dungeon. The four of you have been commissioned to go and recover the Amulet at any cost to life and limb. The Amulet is needed to defeat an evil necromancer that has declared that he will subdue the whole region by his deadly craft.

Alexandr and Raguel position themselves before the first doorway beyond the entrance. Harrenvok steps up behind Alexandr, then he *fiddle's with his various pouches and tomes*. Knoe steps behind Harrenvok to protect from the rear of the party.

As Alexandr pushes open the door, the lantern reveals a room with two levels. The party will need to follow the steps downward to get to the next doorway. [Submit an initiative test if you want to jump down from the top to the lower level please.]

Alexandr strides into the upper level corner. The rest of the warriors follow, keeping the same formation.


Monster Phase
One trained cave squig and its goblin squig herders attack from the rear of the party. The cave squig immediately pounces upon Knoe. The goblin hunters will attack Knoe next turn if they can.

The squig bites and tears at Knoe, only wounding him once (-4 wounds).

First Adventure: Recover the Amulet


The Bi-level Room:

Unexpected Event:
A cloaked, stooped figure slinks into view, keeping to the shadows and
moving with an eerie silence.

NOTE: It hadn't been noticed before, but there is an important-looking chest on the lower level.

Alexandr shoots at the squig but misses.

Raguel slays one squig hunter, steps up and misses the second one.

Harrevok blasts the goblin and squig with a Fireball, killing the goblin, but just barely wounding the squig.

Knoe misses the squig (rolled a 2 to hit!) and prepares to dodge if needed. emoticon

The squig looks around for a monsters to attack and moves into the corridor. emoticon

Unexpected Event:
Two goblin netters arrive to harass the warriors. Netter (#2) is ready to attack Knoe, while the other netter (#3) is ready to enmesh Harrenvok. (two monster events so far)


Warrior Phase Harrenvok's Turn

Alexander cuts down a goblin just before it could attack Harrenvok..

Raguel kills one goblin and the squig in a nice dance of death.

While Harrenvok waits to see what the leader will do, Knoe moves up against the south wall and completes his meditations, receiving no healing this time.

(Alexandr will decide who gets the Open Helmet. Anyone may receive it, but no one in this party can use it.)

(Remember the Stranger in the corner and the chest on the lower level.)

Warrior Phase Harrenvok's Turn

Alexandr moves to speak with the sranger in the corner: ""Who are you, and how comes it that you do not care to join the fight?"

Stranger: "I saw that you you fellows had things quite under control. Had you been wounded near death I might have intervened.

"I bring important news. Your quest must be postponed, for the danger is greater than ever imagined. You must abandon your task and return whence you came. You will each be given 750 gold for your trouble.

"Now, I must be on my way." And, with that, he hurries to the entrance and out of the dungeon.

Raguel speaks in reply to the stranger's words: "He's lying and in league with the evil that infests this dungeon, I say we capture him and deliver him to the authorities.
 
"I believe he's lying because we've just entered this dungeon by ourselves, our patrons would not venture here, otherwise they wouldn't have send us instead..."

Harrenvok takes a step westward and speaks his mind: "I do not put weight in someone who flees after the danger has been vanquished, and does not even help to quell the danger. I say we proceed, but need to keep a closer eye on our surroundings. A warning should have some from behind, not from deep within the cavern."

Knoe moves to investigate the chest while giving his thoughts: "I say we go on with our adventure no matter whether he is lying or not. I just got here and do not want to leave until I have confronted the evil of this place."

Upon examining the chest he finds it locked up tight. There are runes and symbols on the top showing that it is the official chest used to hold the Amulet of Life and Purity.

Warrior Phase GM's Turn

Alexander does nothing but speak with his companions: "Good showing, my friends. We seem to have found our objective... but how will we open this chest?" He also decides to keep the helmet to sell and share the gold at a settlement. (GM allowed Alexandr to reload his pistol, while only talking besides.) emoticon

Raguel moves near the chest, finds no traps and cannot pick the lock (need the key). (Because of Raguel's position, the next section should be revealed in the Exploration Phase.)

Harrenvok steps onto the steps next to his leader. while Knoe stays where he is so Alexandr may lead the way.

Alexandr moves into the clay room.

Raguel follows while making some comment about why someone would leave a chest so near the entrance to the dungeon.

Horrenvok takes the SE corner, and Knoe completes the protective formation.

As the warriors prepare for the worst, nothing happens, but they can see light streaming down from far above. There is a large stone slab removed from the high-vaulted ceiling of this room. It gives so much light that this section and the adjacent sections are lighted (need no lantern to move, explore and fight). (Wimpy events!).

Alexandr strides across the fossilized floor to the next door. Raguel follows close behind. Harrenvok and Knoe also

Monster Phase

EVENT (Foul Magic must be near to do this to a Witch Hunter): Alexandr suddenly breaks out in hysterics, collapsing on the ground and whimpering softly to himself. Bemused, the other Warriors try to console him, gradually bringing things under control again. For the rest of the dungeon, Alexandr must pass a Willpower test at the beginning of each turn or he will be unable to do anything that turn except move. Monsters get +2 To Hit him in any turn that he fails to pass the Willpower test. (GM softened this event a little.)

Alexandr moves down the corridor, while having not the willpower to do anything else. Good thing no monsters are about... yet.

Raguel follows close behind.

Turn 13 -- GM's Turn


First Adventure: Recover the Amulet


Skulls Corridor:

Power Phase 4
Event Phase 1 -- A Portcullis slams down
behind the warriors shortly after they enter the skulls corridor. They may only pass through it if they find the key or some other way around (GM will make sure there is a way, but you may have to find a secret door somewhere.).

Then, seven Dark Elf Nagarroth Black Guards assail the warriors. Each warrior has two dark elves on them, except Raguel (positioning obvious -- they have halberds and fight in ranks and hate elves).

Warrior Phase

Alexandr does not have the will to do anything but move for the moment.

Raguel barely wounds a dark elf (1 wound).

Harrenvok misses the wounded Dark Elf black guy with his sword. Then he confuses another with magic.

Knoe hits the wounded Dark Elf with a heavy blow, but still only draws a little blood (2 wounds caused).


Monster Phase

Two Naggareth black guys poke at Alexandr with their halberds, but only one hits and gives him a scratch (1 wound). Only one hits Knoe, who fails to doge and gets a gash on his shoulder (2 wounds). Raguel receives a solid jab and suffers a mean wound to his side (5 wounds), his belt not helping at all for the moment. Harrenvok is jabbed twice, each one causing moderate pain (5 wounds).

Knoe hits dark elf $# with a lesser blow casuing it no harm at all.


Monster Phase

One dark elf wounds Alexandr with a slight poke (1 wound). One misses Raguel, while a second one nearly takes off his head (7 - 5T = 2 wounds, leaving 1). Only one of the two attacking Harrenvok hit him, but that is enough to nealy kill him (6 wounds = 1 wound left). Knoe is also hit by one harmful halberd (4 wounds caused).

Harrenvok heals himself just a little (2 Wounds).

Alexandr does have the will to act for the moment. He wounds one of the Dark Elves (Naggareth Guard) a bit (2 wounds).

Raguel misses yet again.

Harrenvok misses a dark elf.

Knoe kills the wounded dark elf and then does a killing, stunning blow upon another slaying it with but one well-placed blow to the head!


Monster Phase

Two mean halberds mortally wound Knoe the Martial Artist. His Vest of Honour fails to preserve his life (no emergency healing this time).

Two dark elves miss Alexandr. The last dark elf mortally wounds Raguel in spite of his special belt's protection.


Reaction Phase

Harrenvok is only able to rescue one of the downed warriors and he chooses to heal Knoe (3 wounds, 15 XP) (Knoe might be able to return the favor at some point. NOTE: Cutlass adopts Alexander at this point in the game (see chat/orders). However, Raguel perishes. What an interesting combination!

Two halberds strike at Knoe. He dodges one, but gets a minor wound from the other. Harrenvok ismissed by one black guard. Alexandr is hit, suffering little from the blow.

Harrenvok heals himself a bit.

Alexandr does have the will to act again. He slices an ear off a dark elf (2 wounds).

Harrenvok stays where he is.

Knoe kills the dark elf on him, then with great acrobatic skill moves South and masterfully performs a killing blow on the last dark elf!

Combat over! Knoe is so caught up in thinking of how he may honour his deceased master that he lets Alexander and Harrenvok collect all the monster gold (600 for Harrenvok, since he killed one also, & 450 for Alexandr).

Treasure = 1 Magical Steel Warhelm (BD) (sell value is 1200 gold) +3T. No one here can use it. (anyone may receive it as for whose turn to receive).

Alexandr gives the warhelm to Harrenvok

Harrenvok heals Alexandr completely (4 wounds, 20 XP).

Knoe reminds Alexandr that there is a portcullis blocking the party's route of retreat.

Warrior Phase

Alexandr does have the will to do something this turn. He moves South and begins to try to push the door open, but it seems stuck. It is quite heavy. Maybe with the help of another warrior it could be opened. At the same time, Alexandr hears some strange sounds coming from the other side of the door. It sounds like several voices chanting or groaning and moaning.

Harrenvok waits and heals himself (4 wounds).

Knoe waits and meditates, bringing full health to himself and Harrenvok (10 wounds on self and 2 on Harrenvok, 10 XP).

Alexandr does have the will to do something this turn. He moves South and begins to try to push the door open, but it seems stuck. It is quite heavy. Maybe with the help of another warrior it could be opened. At the same time, Alexandr hears some strange sounds coming from the other side of the door. It sounds like several voices chanting or groaning and moaning.

Harrenvok waits and heals himself (4 wounds).

Knoe waits and meditates, bringing full health to himself and Harrenvok (10 wounds on self and 2 on Harrenvok, 10 XP).

As Knoe assists with opening the stubborn door, an eerily-lighted room, an idolatrous temple, is revealed. Not only that, a lone female warrior is found standing in the midst of the mucky floor. She seems... somehow distracted and perhaps a bit afraid. She looks at the warriors, then looks at the altar, gives a slight shake of her head and speaks...

Event Phase 1 -- Three Trained Cave Squigs and their goblin hunters arrive!


One squig immediately attacks Harrenvok (6 wounds caused). A second one attacks Knoe, but just barely hurts him (1 wound). The last one cannot get past all the snotlings to attack a warrior.


Warrior Phase

Alexandr does NOT have the will to do anything this turn.

Brynja cannot do anything this turn as she is adversely affected by a surge of arcane powers (I rolled a 1 after getting a 6 for POW). Monsters can more easily hit her too (+2 to hit).

Harrenvok roasts three monsters North of him with a fireball, killing the two goblins and nearly killing a cave squig also. Then he swings his sword at the squig and misses.

Knoe with a great display of his martial arts, bare-handedly kills a cave squig and the five snotlings surrounding him. Then he moves North and slays a hunter and steps up to attack the wounded squig, but misses. (See his fighting acrobat skill, similar to the Wardancer, but even more flexible.)


Monster Phase

The wounded squig is now wild and goes to sleep instead of attacking. The trapped squig is still trapped and growls at the warriors.

The remaining goblin squig hunter moves to attack Knoe, and just wounds him (dodge failed).

Two snotlings decide to gang up on Knoe and manage to hurt him some with their little clubs. The four snotlings still on Brynja miss her again. Then the three snotlings on Alexandr wound him greatly (5 wounds caused).

Monster Phase

The cave squig North of Harrenvok falls asleep. The other squig wants to attack the warriors, but can't get free of its cramped quarters.

The goblin squig hunter near Knoe misses him. The two snotlings still ganging up on Knoe cause him some grief with their little clubs (2 wounds).

Three snotlings go after Brynja, but neither they nor the goblins have the wits about them to work together and the squig hunters are unable to reach any warriors.

All the snotlings attacking Brynja and Alexandr fail to hit them.

Warrior Phase

Alexandr does have the will to act this turn. Then he slices easily through three snotlings.

Brynja chops up one snotling with her axe, but misses the next one.

Harrenvok misses a squig

Knoe, with another amazing display of his martial skills, quickly dispatches two snotlings and the already-wounded squig and just wounds the goblin squig hunter. Thanks to his fighting acrobat style he was able to so maneuver around harrenvok that it was almost like the wizard was not standing there.

Brynja's Ring of Desolation hits (OW rolled a 5, since the dice server was down) the foremost goblin with a freezing ray of chaotic energy, preventing it from doing anything and nicely blocking the path of other monsters.


Monster Phase

The squig again cannot get to a warrior and it isn't smart enough (this time) to wait for the snotlings to move out of the way.

The goblin hunter in the corridor swings a small sword at Harrenvok, but hits the wall instead.

The snotlings go first for Brynja and four miss her. Then another misses at Alexander with its club swing.

(Thanks to the Ring of Desolation and the poor monster dice rolls, the monsters had a very wimpy Monster Phase.)

Harrenvok heals Alexander (4 wounds, 20 XP).

Power Phase 6 -- Brynja's Spell: she is overtaken with her arcane knowledge and is able to cast a healing spell, healing Harrenvok a little (2 wounds, 10 XP).

Alexandr does NOT have the will to act this turn.

Brynja momentarily breaks away from the snotlings, steps South, and misses a goblin with her axe.

Harrenvok misses the goblin hunter in the corridor.

Knoe kills the same goblin with his bare hands and moves into the room to see what damge he can do. he breaks the necks of two snotlings, then steps once more South and slays a third snotling.

Brynja's Ring of Desolation misses the squig.


Monster Phase

The squig goes after Alexandr, biting him twice (8 wounds), leaving him for dead.

The goblin hunters poke Brynja with their mean prod (5 wounds).

The two snotlings gang up on Brynja and nearly do as much damage with their clubs (4 wounds) as the goblins did with the prodder.


Reaction Phase

Harrenvok then heals Alexandr, saving his life once more (3 wounds, 15 XP).

Event Phase 1 -- Alexandr becomes careless in the fight and accidentally bumps Brynja, who fails to keep her balance and falls flat on her face on the floor. The monsters think that she is dead. Brynja can do nothing this turn as she recovers from the fall.

Alexandr does have the will to act this turn. He slays a snotling and misses the squig.

Harrenvok waits to heal.

Knoe moves to attack the squig and wounds it, though he fails to kill it.

Brynja having recovered from her fall, *glaring at Alexandr, and briefly wondering if he's just trying to make her look bad, ... takes out her anger on the nearest goblin - Hacking clean through his wiry body.*

Harrenvok moves into the Northeast corner of the room, ready to heal.

Knoe misses the squig.

Brynja's misses with her Ring of Desolation.

The squig rushes after Harrenvok and misses with two ferocious bites!

Combat over! Objective Room Treasure will be found in the chest along with the holy amulet -- if the warriors ever get to it and get it opened. Knoe Keidew picks up his gold this time (rolled a 5) (550 woohoo!). Alexandr = 265g, Brynja = 55g, Harrenvok = 60g.

Okay, I finally found my policy for treasure in this game (in the Adventure & combat Stats topic -- LOL nice place for it too). I originally decided to go by the normal rules for the kills as a means of testing the Martial Artist's special gold-sharing rule, but to also give the 10% bounty for individul kills, since I try to be nice and my treasures are often basically worthless (or close to it).

Now, anyone may search the room (except Alexandr this turn) in addition to any healing (Knoe will likely meditate.) Just roll a simple Initiaitive test (1D6+In must =/> 7 to succeed, but adjusted by OW depending on difficulty of the task) to see if you might find something. Please also declare what you are searching for, since there might be more than one thing (secret door, key, etc....).

Brynja searches for the amulet, but finds nothing at all.

Harrenvok searches for a key of any type, but apparently is looking in the wrong places (rolled a 1).

Knoe decides to help look for a key and does quite well (rolled a 5) finding a little drawer in the bottom of the altar. There he retrieves a key to the portcullis AND another key that looks like it might fit the chest.


Reaction Phase

Knoe's meditations cause his Vest of Honour to glow with a somewhat healing aura (he can share three wounds, 1 each he gives to Alexandr & Brynja, 10 XP, and 1 for himself).

Event Phase 1 -- Four ghouls spring upon the warriors from the dark corners of the room!



Warrior Phase

Alexandr does have the will to act this turn (again), but he fails to harm a ghouls with a weak sabre strike, though he fears them not.

Brynja goes into a Warp Frenzy (+2 attacks, but all attacks are at -1 to hit). She somehow still fears the evil creatures (additional -1 to hit). She fails to break free and must stand to fight the ghouls next to her. She misses once, then nearly slays one, then misses once again.

Harrenvok, without fear, swings his sword, but easily misses his gruesome opponent.

Knoe, who is a bit fearful of the creatures, hits the one next to Harrenvok with a lessor blow, doing it no harm.

Brynja's Ring of Desolation: *Brynja fires off a bolt of energy at the Northernmost ghoul, but fires wide.*


Monster Phase

One ghoul rips into Harrenvok badly (6 wounds), after having missed with one clawed arm. Another does the same to Alexandr, but the gorget lessens the blow (5 wounds). Knoe would have suffered two devastating blows, but he dodges one of them and suffers the same as Alexandr (5 wounds). The last ghoul gives Brynja a serious scraching, but nothing like her comrades are suffering (2 wounds).

Fossilized Room:

Power Phase 2
Event Phase 1 -- The Warriors are confronted by a slumped, cowled figure crawling towards them, calling for help in a piteous voice. Brynja turns and tries to help him in the midst of the fighting. The figure slumps in her arms, dead, his cowl falling to one side and revealing his plague-ridden face. Oh dear! However, she proves tough enough to avoid getting the plague. That was close!

Then, as if signalled by the plague-bearing man's death, ten snotlings ambush the warriors!


Ambush Results: The two snotlings ganging up on Alexandr miss. The two on Knoe hit him and he doesn't dodge (2 wounds). The four on Brynja somehow royally miss her.


Warrior Phase

Alexandr does have the will to act this turn (again). He misses a ghoul with his trusty sabre.

Brynja, in her frenzied state, slays two snotlings and one ghoul and nearly destroys another ghoul.

Harrenvok almost slays a ghoul (3 wounds).

Knoe swings his stiffened arm at a snotling, but finds his swing wasn't quick enough to hit it.

Brynja misses with her Ring of Desolation.


Monster Phase BAD NEWS!

One ghoul pounds on Brynja twice, but only draws blood once (2 wounds). Another beats Harrenvok to death (wounds caused: 6 and 5). Note: even if Harrenvok spent his one power token to cast Confuse (-1 attack) on the ghoul, he would still fall mortally wounded. Alexandr also falls dead from a mortal wound by the third ghoul.

The three odd snotlings decide to joind the three already on Brynja (gang up) and the six together give her a serious pounding (Str 6 + 6 damage roll = 8 wounds caused). The two snotlings on Knoe miss.

Knoe (fears ghouls) slays two snotlings, turns and kicks the one behind him into next week. Then he focuses on the wounded ghoul (NE), but just misses it.

Brynja misses with her special ring.


Monster Phase

Two ghouls would hit Knoe three times, but he dodeges twice (-3 wounds). One ghoul clobbers Brynja twice, killer her, leaving only Knoe to combat the evil creatures.

The two snotlings then attack Knoe but miss him.
